When I was growing up (younger than ten) our neighbors hosted a Japanese exchange student, who also befriended my family. She introduced me to Totoro, taught my mom how to make sushi, and she also taught me a bit of origami. The crane has always been one of my favorites, I’ve folded hundreds since that time. The paper crane symbolizes peace, love, and hope.
It is said that one who folds one thousand will be granted a wish. I probably haven’t folded 1000 paper cranes yet, but I am wishing for peace.
One fold at a time, one crane at a time, one breath at a time. To do it with presence and care, whatever it is. I am not the religious type, but I do aspire towards living a life full of awe and worship.
It’s late, my brain is feeling fuzzy. Be good to each other. Goodnight.
