I heard that there were
Dragons in your dreamland
And some ships upon your shore
Which were rigged for an adventure
Set for anything in store
A light shone from your window
Preparing skull and bone
For a jaunt across an ocean
For a wander from your home
I know you knew
Not what would come
A serpent, slug or eel
All that really mattered
Was the turning of the wheel
At times to drift
At times to sail
To relish at a sight
A sunfish or a whale
Would give you
Infinite delight
I know someday I’ll spot you
Riding dragons through the stars
But for now the ocean’s rhythm
Has you singing where you are
Once been smitten by the dragons
Twice been bitten by the bug
So that when the sky had opened
All you did was glance and shrug
You have left forever longer
Where you never meant to go
And a jaunt into the moonlight
Turned a twist around the globe
I know someday I’ll see you
On a dragon in the stars
But for now I know you’re perfect, here
Exactly where you are
